Suzanne Helff:
From the time Suzanne was a toddler, Bergen Community College was a big part of her world. As the daughter of long-time faculty member, Peter Helff, Suzanne spent many hours on campus. When she was ready for college, Bergen Community College was there for her again Suzanne developed into a a responsible and focused young woman.
By 1997, Suzanne was a vivacious and loving 27-year-old mother committed to raising her four-year-old daughter. But in November of that year, She succumbed to a virulent strain of the flu leaving her daughter without a mother and her family with a huge void.
Although in shock as a result of the tragedy, Suzanne’s father, Peter, wanted to establish an endowment with the BCC Foundation so that other young people needing scholarship assistance while attending the college could benefit. The outpouring of support in Suzanne’s memory make it possible to fund this scholarship and to benefit students less fortunate.
