Eleanor D'Avino

Eleanor “Ellie” D’Avino defined the two words that make up “humankind” in every aspect of the life that she so generously, graciously, and selflessly shared with others. She was born on December 24, 1931, in Hoboken, NJ, and passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022, after a brief and peaceful stay under hospice care at Valley Hospital.

Ellie was an extremely accomplished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her joy purely and simply evolved around the people in her life that she could serve, including an army of “Bergenites” at Bergen Community College, where she spent the greater part of her long career helping faculty and staff within the Human Resources function.

While she might have been called by many names – “Grams,” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, “El” and “Ellie” as she was lovingly called by her extended family and friends, “Sugar,” as she was called by many in her younger years – Ellie was always a constant, positive, loving force in all of the lives she touched.
